Day 1 (5th July 2018)
Morning session: CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM
An introduction will be given into the field of time-controlled drug delivery systems, with an emphasis on solid oral dosage forms. This includes lectures and practical demonstration sessions on the manufacturing and characterization of coated delivery systems and matrix tablets (e.g., spray drying, tableting, film coating and texture analysis).
Afternoon session: HOW TO EVALUATE AND TREAT CARDIOCASCULAR DISEASE?
The objective of this training is to sensitize on cardiovascular diseases; the prognostic of patients with occlusive arterial lesions and principles of endovascular revascularization. The specificities and therapeutic issues in the case of lesions on native arteries (de novo) and facing the phenomena of restenosis and thrombosis will be treated. A comprehensive state of the art on current stent (use or in development) will eventually be exposed.
Day 2 (6th July 2018)
Morning session: FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTROSPINNING AND ITS APPLICATION IN BIOMEDICAL FIELD
The seminar will firstly describe the principle of electrospinning and how a polymer drop submitted to a high electric field can be transformed into nanofibers (NFs) networks. In this theoretical approach, the influence of three classes of parameters on the NFs characteristics will be discussed: i) solution parameters; ii) apparatus settings; iii) environmental conditions. Then some examples of biomedical applications of NFs networks applied as scaffolds and drug delivery systems will be presented. In the second part, a practice session will be proposed, consisting of demonstration of electrospinning on the apparatus of the laboratory.
Afternoon session: MANIPULATION OF THE PHYSICAL STATES OF PHARMACEUTICALS AND THEIR CHARACTERIZATIONS
This training will focus on the nature of the physical states of pharmaceuticals and their transformations induced by different relevant stresses (temperature, pressure, grinding, freeze-drying). The participants will gain a thorough understanding of specific experimental methods suitable for the physical characterization of these materials (calorimetry, dielectrics relaxation spectroscopy, Raman scattering, X-Ray diffraction). The training will include lectures and practical demonstration sessions.
